Summer Holiday Club 2004

Over eighty children and forty adults recently spent a week at ‘Seaside Rock’ for this year’s Holiday Club.

The children were divided into groups called Seahorses, Sandcastles, Octopus, Deckchairs, Parasols, Waves

and the leaders’ children were in a crèche called ‘The Shrimps’ of course!! They decorated their corners and

made banners to suit the theme.

Each morning was varied and included games, crafts and other activities. The biblical theme was based on Peter

who was ‘a rock’ and Jesus who is a ‘rock’ that we can rely on.

The children found out about the meanings of their own names and produced ‘gold’ frames to display their names in.

They heard the story of the wise and foolish builders who built on rock and sand and how important their foundations

were. They also wove ‘God’s eyes’ and decorated their own rocks to take home as a memento of the week.

Of course there were also postcards that were written and posted home and each child was given a stick of rock to

take home too.

The week culminated on the final evening with a ‘Sausage sizzle’, when the weather was very kind to us before a

celebration and review of the week’s events was held in church with parents and friends joining us.
